Literary Auction - June 12th 2007
London’s literary community gave the
Save the Baby Unit £1million Appeal a huge boost, when an
auction of signed books and fabulous prizes, hosted by radio
presenter and journalist Alan Coren, raised £20,000 on June 12th 2007.
More than 100 friends and supporters,
including newsreaders Natasha Kaplinsky and Kate Garraway,
City high flyers and a plethora of doctors, packed into
Stephen Carey’s Mayfair
salon snapping up signed first editions of more than 100
books. Top sellers included Jancis Robinson’s The Oxford
Companion to Wine, John Julius Norwich’s A History of
Venice, and Ian McEwan’s Chesil Beach.
A fast and exciting auction – presided
over by Lesley Regan and Alan Coren – saw tennis games with
Raj Persaud, vintage wine donated by Roy Hattersley, dancing
lessons with Esther Rantzen and television studio tours
being snapped up for hundreds of pounds. One of the biggest
sellers on the night was 10 bottles of the now legendary
Boots anti-ageing serum which raised £700.
Afterwards, Prof Regan thanked the
evening’s sponsors for providing a
Champagne
Bar, Stephen Carey and Ian Denson for hosting us in Mount Street, Caroline Goldston for the
delicious canapes and Nikki Tibbles at Wild at Heart for
stunning flower displays.

"For these patients
every month counts as their fertility declines with
time. That is why rebuilding these clinical and
research facilities is so important. It makes all
the difference between giving our patients the
promise of a live take home baby or condemning them
to childlessness forever. This project just cannot
wait."
